Because of this, as Ragnarok progress, the prospect of defeat becomes more and more real for the almighty deities. While in the beginning the Gods expected an easy victory, Brunhilde used a power of the Völundr to give mankind a winning chance, by giving them God-killing weapons. In order to win Ragnarok, the Gods chose thirteen of their mightiest Gods to fight against mankind's greatest warriors.

However, Brunhilde taunted them, suggesting that they were "chickening out" from fighting the Humans directly. The Gods, seeing the suggestion as pointless, refused to take part in it, saying that it was a waste of time.
